I preferred rural living because I didn't have to face anyone I didn't want to, but I was fine now. I didn't mind the "suburbia" lifestyle, but I hate the word "suburbia." I mean really, it's such an ugly word. And everyone's the same; fancy houses, fancy cars, and everyone tries to outdo each other. Pft, like anyone could really outdo us, the Keenis. We're just fabulous. Well, in our own way. I'm probably the only ex-convict in the development. Oh well.
I went out onto the unkempt lawn to the mailbox and got the mail, looking through all the junk mail, muttering to myself. All they wanted was money. "Bastards," I grumbled, slamming the mailbox door closed a bit more harshly than I had meant to. I was heading back to the house when I noticed the chain link fence that separated my house from Tam's was looking a bit beaten up. A scowl came across my face. "Clem and Sam...." Of course it was them! They're always the culprits.

Tam pushed a few stray strands of hair out of her eyes and back into the messy bun she'd pulled her hair into. It was mid afternoon and pretty peaceful as Tam slipped out in one of Adam's large jumpers and her usual leggings. She yawned as she moved down her kept lawn to the mailbox, pulling it open and retrieving the post. There were a few letters from the tv station, one from her mother (probably the only person in the entire world who still actually sent handwritten letters) and then a number of bills and the usual junk mail.
She turned back when to go into the house when she spotted her neighbour, on the other side. Damn.

"What the hell is this? The fence wasn't like this yesterday." Already I was accusing Tam, who just so happened to appear at the precise moment I wanted her to. I really didn't want to go up to her door because then they could force me off their lawn, so I just went over to the fence and glared her down. "Though what do you expect from that careless son of yours."

Tam looked round, her eyebrow arching automatically.
"Your fence? Really I don't see a difference, your entire front lawn looks like a shit bomb hit so...I don't really get the problem." She said pleasantly although her gaze immediately flattened and narrowed at his next comment.
"My son? What's that supposed to mean?" She said, her voice dropping to a deathly soft tone.

I snorted. "When the hell did I ever say it was my fence? And maybe I don't give a shit what this neighborhood thinks about my lawn. I'll keep it the way I want to." I never did conform to any of this "neighborhood improvement" procedures or anything. They're all a waste of time and money. I'll live the way I want, thank you. "Oh, you know. Clem's always sneaking out during the night so I wouldn't be surprised if he jumped the fence to get to some girl faster."

"Well you should, it's a mess," She said flatly. "You'd think Becca would at least spend some time working out the lawn...and as far as I know, you're not employed...what exactly do you do all day, again?" She said sweetly.
"And there's nothing wrong with Clem's behaviour, he's a boy," She said pointedly.

Out of all the days today was one of the days Zachery didn't mind staying at the house. Unlike his usually days where as soon as he was up he was out of the house doing something, but his dad had the day off and he had promised him that they would put up the Christmas lights. Zachery quickly threw on a long sleeve shirt and jeans, not checking if in fact that they were clean or not, and was already racing down the hall and down the stairs only grabbing toast and heading out the door where he believed his dad had already started working from the commotion, but stepped out to a rude awaking.
Instead of lights hanging from up above and his dad up on a ladder calling out some lame joke about Zachery being a sleepy head, but nope what he got was watching his mother steaming from her ears, having a shouting match with Mr. Keeni. Zachery did not know if he should get tangled into this one, but he knew his dad would be bloody pissed if something happen to his mom. Zachery was still had the door open and his hand on the handle and only took a half step in before shouting. " DAD MOM IS AT IT AGAIN WITH MR.KEENI!!" And stepped to the side and finished his toast waiitng to watch the fireworks unroll.

It was turning out to be a very good day. Tamara and Adam had a very eventful night where they both had fun, which has put Adam in a very, very good mood, that has dragged over to the next day, as he threw his legs out of bed and stood up only in his boxers, and like a bolt of lightning one of his kids he believed was Zachery raced by the ajar door that lead to his bedroom. Adam chuckled to himself as he walked over casually to his drawer and picked out a folded pair of jeans. Adam had all the time in the world, Zachery it seemed to have woken up late as well just like his mother and Father, and from the looks of it he was in a good mood. So waiting just another five minutes for his dad to get dress and grab something to eat won’t kill the boy. It has been sometime since the two had some father-son bonding time, but seeing as his sister was overseas hanging out with Tamara’s parents and going to school over there, and Clem and Sam both at Richmond. Time was being made for just Zachery, like today. A very simple day of hanging up some Christmas lights, maybe grabbing the bikes and Tam, Zachery, and himself could go for a family bike ride. Ah that would be so nice, but that was all practical ruined by one sentence shouted by his youngest son. “Dad, Mom is at it again with Mr.Keeni!” Adam only had time to grab a shirt without looking and tossed it over his head as he headed down the stairs, and out the door. To pause just briefly to see his brown haired youthful son standing watching and meeting his eyes and just pointed toward the fence that separated the two houses. “Thanks for the heads up.” Adam thanked his son before heading over to the two grown demigods. Adam, himself personally had no problem with Bear, but for whatever reason Tam and Bear never got alone, which called for Adam to try to defuse Tam before Bear and Adam did something they both would seriously regret later.

I snorted. "Like I'd really give into what all these suburbia clones want." I growled, leaning against the fence because I really didn't feel like standing. "Who are you to tell me how to take care of my property? And I'm still a butcher, thanks for asking." Not a lot of people will hire you once you're out of prison. Having a jailbird on the working staff just doesn't look good to other companies, but I did good work before I was behind bars. I didn't steal anything and I did what I was expected to. Maybe that was why they rehired me when I went to see if I could work there again. All I had to comply to was being closely monitored, which I didn't mind. "It's all fine and dandy until he starts trespassing and defacing other people's property." I replied in the same low, deathly tone she gave me, glaring at her with my dark eyes.

Becca drove down her street in her beige minivan. She had really gotten used to being a mother. Sure, she would have loved to have had more time to have fun before getting pregnant, but it happened and there was no point in whining over it. Minivans, vacuuming, cooking, doing laundry, it was all part of Rebecca's daily life now. To some it may seem like an annoying task, but this is what she loved. She loved being a mother and loved taking caring of her two kids and husband. The Keeni's house came to sight and Becca immediately spotted Bear and Tam going at it. Ever since high school, Tam wasn't necessarily number one on Becca's list of favorite people. Actually, Tam was probably one of the lasts. Yes, yes, Rebecca had held a grudge from all those years ago, but she could never really get over it when she lived right next door. Becca parked and got her back filled with newspaper articles she had to write before getting out and closing the door. She walked over to Bear and hooked her arm through his. "Tam, could you stop worrying about how our yard looks and start worrying about more important things like your parenting skills." Becca flashed a fake smile.

Tam rolled her eyes.
"Fine, keep your lawn looking like a crap hole but I swear, as soon as you start gathering rats I'm calling the bloody authorities," Tam said snippily, crossing her arms over her chest as her gaze narrowed further, lips pressing into an ever thinner line before she gave a scoff and another eye roll.
"'Defacing property'? If you mean that time when he was five and crashed into the side of your house...that was hardly defacing anything. I'm sure he has better things to do then..." She started when she stopped, hardly managing to squealch the look of almost contempt.
"There is nothing wrong with my parenting skills," She said acidly. Sam and Zac were obvious examples of that...and Clem had some values and those he did have he did keep true too. He'd always been a little...urm...differently behaved but he'd never been awful to his parents or his family, it wasn't like he fought endlessly and he'd only ever been arrested once and that was only for public indecency...she did the best she could and any bad behaviour was always met by hours of ranting on her part.
