Doing Nothing All Day [Jacob]

I remember always bringing Charlie and Noel to the park because they loved it. They'd play together with sticks, stones, grass, whatever they could get their little hands on; sometimes they'd splash around in the shore of the lake. Those were the good days. I don't mean that I don't like my own children now, it's just that the sayings are true and time flies. I remember everything like it was yesterday. I doubted Charlie or Noel would want to play with sticks anymore unless they were chasing after each other in a violent manner,but I doubt they'd do that. They're good kids. Well, Charlie is. Noel's kind of a rebel. But hey, who isn't? Especially in those teenager years. Crazy times.

Walking slowly and casually down a path, I didn't really notice anyone else other than nature. Prison really did me in and mellowed me out. I knew my anger issues were a huge problem, so I had asked for counseling there, and that did me a lot of good -- for now, at least. One of the things the counselor said was to find things that were peaceful and focus on it. So now I was focusing on nature; all the birds, the leafless trees, the blue sky behind it... so peaceful. So calm.

I never really wondered if trees got cold in the winter. I know that acorns need a good freeze before they can grow, so do they like the cold? I don't know. Trees don't have feelings -- don't tell any Demeter kid I said that. They're alive, yeah, but do they have feelings? Maybe they're just insensitive to us crazy humans but they come alive when they're alone, like the tree ents in Lord of the Rings.

I was just casually walking along when I bumped into some kid; I was about to say something when he snapped at me in a snarly tone. Well, then. My mood quickly turned sour. "Watch where you're going, ya little bastard." I shot back hotly. Never mind all the peace nature had to offer. This little punk just had to ruin it all with his snarky attitude, so I'd just shoot back with snarky comments.
