The bell on the door rang as Jacob pushed it open. He was finally getting a dog, deciding it was time. He wanted one, but part of him always hesitated. He had a dog before...before his life became the way it was now. He loved dogs, but they brought back unwanted memories. Memories he struggled with, and longed to forget. On the outside, he looked fine. But anyone who managed to see behind the mask realized all was not as it seemed. But few did. Though he sorta had friends, he rarely let anyone get close enough to see who he really was. They'd probably run in the opposite direction if they did. His crazy and screwed up life was something not many people wanted to get involved in.
But lately, he hardly knew he was, who he was becoming. He thought he had moved on, gotten on with his life, but he was beginning to think he hadn't. The memories still plagued him, and he longed for the relief of forgetting them. But no, they would always stay firmly implanted in his mind. Sighing, he quickly pushed the thoughts aside, and looked around the animal shelter.
Walking up and down rows of cages, he finally saw the perfect dog. He was a black Labador Retriever, and looked to be really friendly. When Jacob stopped by his cage, the dog barked, and wagged his tail. "Hey big guy. You looking for a home?" The dog barked. "Well, I think you've found one."
