She walks down the road trying to find the ocean line in the fading sunlight. She sighed. She couldn't recall the last time she had been at the water's edge. She smiled when she saw it. She saw the colors bouncing off the mirrored surface and she then realized it was getting dark. She didnt know when it had gotten so dark. She had been so focused on the aqua that she hadnt noticed that the pastel hued horizon had gone to a dark blue. She walks into the sand and takes off her flip flops. She felt the grains squish between her toes and she grinned at the fact she could be here. She looked down and giggled as the cool water lapped at her feet. She placed a hand in the water as she crouched down to meet it. She wasn't aware of anyone else but herself while she was here. She didn't really care if anyone else was there. Let them look at the girl playing in the water.
She decided to go for a stroll down the waterside letting the water touch her feet and ankles. She didn’t care for her flip flops she’d need new ones soon anyway… She tried to find her hiding place in the dark. It wasn’t hard to find for her since she had been there so often but to the newcomer almost impossible. It was low tide as she crawled into her hiding place, a low rock formation that had left an empty cove, her favorite place to be in low tide. She watched the last of the sun set and just listened to the waves lapping. Her shorts and tank top were untouched by the water and she couldn’t remember the last time she was this relaxed.
She knew she couldn't be gone too terribly long. Kael would get cranky if his mommy was gone for too long. She thought of the little boy that in two short years had gone from her brother to her son. She knew she had to tell him some day. Right now the worst thing in the world to him was Shiloh going to school and a two year old just wouldn't understand. The beautiful little boy was always so full of energy. He kept her on her toes but unlike the first couple months of his life, he never cried. He babbled definitely. He was starting to talk and his first word he ever spoke was "Momma". It made her proud. He loved her so much. She smiled thinking of him running his pudgy hands through his white blonde curls. Those bright baby blues smiling up at her behind a stray lock of hair. He was the most beautiful two year old she knew. He was a carbon copy of his father. In no way resembled his birth mother. You would think by looking at a picture of Blaise and Shiloh that they were his parents. She still had the necklace that had the hidden spot where the picture of the three of them was kept. It had come from her step father's neck the night he had passed in her arms that awful night two years previous. A very mature looking Shiloh holding an infant Kael and looking up at Blaise who smiled down Shiloh and Kael. Unknowingly to the rest of the world his two children. People ask about Kael. They wonder what happened that such a young girl became with child and was now left to raise her son alone. She tells them his father died shortly after his birth and that if he could be here he would. He didn't leave her because he wanted to. It wasn't a lie. In the government's eyes, Kael was her son and Blaise was the biological father. There was no trace of Harley even being related to Kael. There weren't even any red flags like age. She had charmed the people that made the birth certificate to change Blaise's age. Somehow the paperwork got worked out although it was a huge legal mess for about a year. As always though, Shiloh got her way. Now she had her beautiful boy and no one could take him from her.
She stood then thinking she needed to get home. It was cooling down and it was bedtime soon for Kael. The babysitter wouldn't attempt to put Kael to sleep simply because he wouldn't lay down for anyone but his mommy. Shiloh was the only person in the world that Kael trusted completely. She loved that little boy to death. She started walking down the beach and as she looks up she sees a person down the shoreline. She didn't know if they had noticed but she knew she'd have to walk by them to get home. Hopefully they didn't want trouble.
