Even though the beach house was a little past the shore, the bass could still be heard out on the pier. Benjamin wobbled his way down the pier, tripping every now and then. The party was one of the firsts that summer. While he still had to intern at the hospital and he had two medical classes during the summer, it was officially summer break and the rest of his friends were obviously enjoying it.
Ben made it to the end of the pier and sat down. His legs were dangling off the edge as he held on to the railing. He needed some fresh air because everything was foggy to him. Typically, Benjamin never had anything more than a drink or two. He liked being tipsy, never drunk. He hated not having control of a situation. Tonight, his friends somehow managed to give him more drinks than he could remember at the moment. Now he was sitting at the pier trying not to vomit.
(note: sorry it's such crap! x.x)

Shiloh had given Kael to the babysitter for a few hours. Kael was sleeping and she knew she couldn't be gone too long so she went to the pier where she usually escaped to when it was high tide. She wished she could have a couple drinks tonight but knew it wasn't a very good idea. As she neared the end of the pier, she heard the bass and music of the party that was being held on shore in a beach house she had passed. She rolled her eyes and wondered if the police would get called tonight. She looked out over the ocean and smiled and the warm breeze. It was a lovely night
She neared the end of the pier and saw the silhouette of a man. She knew he was there, she had heard him stumbling down the wood and figured he was drunk. When her eyes adjusted she saw him holding onto the railing for dear life with his legs dangling off the side. She wasn't sure this was a good idea but she walked over to where he sat and looked down. Hello. Need any help? she said extending out her helping hand that was usually used and abused. She figured it couldn't hurt to ask. The least she could do was offer to help him back to wherever he came from. She didn't think it was a good idea to leave him here in his drunkness alone over the ocean. That had death sentence written all over it.

Ben was too drunk to notice the girl that, to him, had magically appeared next to him. It wasn't until she had offered to help that he noticed she was there. He was slightly startled, but regained his composure. He looked at her hand and finally processed the words that she had said. "Why don't you join me?" He tried to smile sweetly, hoping she would.
Benjamin was a charmer. He liked to give girls compliments and make them feel special, but he rarely had any interest in sleeping with them. He definitely had no interest in this girl, not that she wasn't attractive, he was just..well, drunk. He wouldn't mind her company though.

She chuckled when he jumped. She guessed he hadn't heard her walk up to him which wasn't surprising. In the past two years she'd learned to walk silently. As he asked her to join him she looked down at him and weighed the options. She ended up deciding it couldn't hurt to sit here for a bit. Sure...why not? She sat on the edge of the pier and dangled her legs over the edge like he did. She wrapped one of her arms around one of the railings so she wouldn't by chance slip. She looked at him and kinda chuckled to herself. He was very drunk.
I'm Shiloh. Do you by chance remember your name? she smiled sarcastically. She had never been so drunk that she didn't know her name but she wasn't so sure about him. She watched him, very closely. She didn't trust him as she shouldn't. She didn't know him, it was dark, they were alone, he was drunk. What better reasons did she need?

Benjamin let out a chuckle. He wasn't quite sure why he laughed so hard, but it was definitely the alcohol speaking. He shook his head trying to clear his mind, but instantly regretted the quick motion as his vision blurred some more. He closed his eyes to concentrate then cleared his throat. "Of course I remember my name! I'm Benjamin. Shiloh's kinda an interesting name. Wasn't that a dog?"
Again Ben chuckled which turned into giggles. His speech was slurred and his thoughts erratic. "So, what are you doing here? Did you come from the party? It's pretty awesome, huh? The DJ is great as you can hear." The music continued to play back at the beach house and seemed to be turned up even louder just to prove Benjamin right.

Shiloh let out a quick breath of frustration. She got that a lot. Heh heh you were named after a dog. The voices of idiotic kids in high school rang through her head. She rolled her eyes and shook them from her head and replied Yes it was a dog on a movie. No I'm not named after it and no I didn't come to the beach for the party. Although it sounds riveting. I came to the pier for some time out of the house. Kael was demanding all day.. She spoke in an exasperated tone. Kael had been very clingy today. Didn't want Mommy to put him down. She spent the day cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping with a two year old in her arms. It wasn't too terribly difficult since he wasn't very big but it was exhausting carrying him around all day.
She looked out over the ocean. The waves were rolling and it was very relaxing. She closed her eyes and relaxed against the railing. She wonders what life would be like if maybe she wasn't a single eighteen year old mother. She wouldn't trade her life for a world without Kael but sometimes she wished she could go outside alone and not have to call a babysitter. She wished she had a man that would step in to help her but she knew there was no man at eighteen or even maybe twenty years old that wanted to take care of a baby that wasn't his. She sighed. She was frustrated and knew she needed to get going soon. She couldn't stay here very long. The babysitter would kill her if he woke up and found out that his Mommy wasn't there to comfort him.

Benjamin was very much a calculated person. He always said the right thing and the right time. He knew how to make a person feel better when they were sad or feel like shit when they deserved it. He knew when to keep his mouth shut and when to speak up. That was when he was sober. When Ben was intoxicated, well, his mouth seemed to have a mind of it's own. "Kael?" Ben swung his legs back and forth over the edge. "Is he your boyfriend? He sounds like a horny fellow." He laughed like he had just said the funniest thing in the world.
Suddenly, Ben stood up and extended his hand. "Dance with me." He stood there staring down at the girl. She seemed younger than him, but not by a lot, maybe a year or two. He hadn't seen her around campus, so maybe she was in high school, though the university was quite big and he was quite drunk so his memory wasn't quite clear. Maybe he would have remembered that he couldn't dance to save his life.

She watched him swing his legs from the side of the pier. No he isn't my boyfriend. I'm single. Kael is my son. He's two. She jumped back startled at how someone so intoxicated could move so quickly. When he stretched out his hand, she kind of stared at it wondering what to do. Then she stood and looked at him wearily before taking his hand. I don't think dancing is a good idea in your condition. Why don't you head back to your party where other people can keep an eye on you. I need to head home so I can leave you there if you'd like. She sighed and looked out toward the start of the pier. It was well dark now. She could see the moon and all the stars and she knew it must be at least 11:00 by now.
She looked back at the very drunk male standing before her. She released his hand because she realized she was still holding it. She wasn't about to be the reason he died. He could very easily fall off the pier and drown being as drunk as he was. He needed to be led back to a place where there were people before she left.

Benjamin swayed back and forth with Shiloh before she let go of him. "Hey, I'm not that bad of a dancer." He laughed and danced with himself, obviously drunk. A pre-med student such as himself would never do such a thing. No wonder he made a point to stay away from alcohol, it made him act all sorts of crazy.
"I don't need anyone to keep an eye on me. I'm not a little kid. Ha! Maybe you should keep an eye on me." Ben stepped closer to Shiloh trying to keep his balance. "I mean you already have a kid and you're what? Eighteen, nineteen? You are totally qualified to take care of me, a twenty year old. Shit. At least I know how to wrap it up and not get my girl pregnant. If I were you, I would have just had an abortion. No way would I bring a baby into the world while I'm a teenager. Hell, not even now." Again Benjamin chuckled. He was rambling now and saying things he never would have said if he were sober. While he was pro-choice, he hated abortions and would never tell anyone to have one so the fact that he was saying it now really hinted to the fact that he was wasted.

She was suddenly very angry. Not often was she this quickly angered but when it came to Kael, no one spoke ill of him without some repercussions. He had stepped closer to her in the time he had told her to watch over him and that had already disgusted her. After he told her she should've had an abortion, even though Kael wasn't her biological child, she felt as though he was and the blow struck her hard. She was filled with rage and suddenly without thinking twice, reeled back and punched him as hard as she could in the face. You're right. I am eighteen years old. I didn't have to take Kael on but I did because I love him. That little boy is the most beautiful two year old there is and he is my world. I am a better mother than most grown women out there. I set my life aside for that child when I didn't have to. Fuck you for judging me. You have no idea who I am and you don't know what my home life is. Please please tell me how you know all about the life I came from. His father is dead and I was left to care for that beautiful child on my own. I am more of an adult than you could ever hope to be. I hope you fall off that damn pier and drown. Frankly that was what I was trying to avoid but right now I wouldn't miss your ignorant ass. I'm going home to my son. I hope I never have the displeasure of being in your presence again.
She couldn't believe she went off on a tangent screaming at this man like he actually deserved the explanation. She turned on her heel and walked away. She didn't have anything more to say to him but he would be explaining that shiner for at least another week. She hoped she broke his damn nose...

Benjamin was really having a fun time despite the nagging little pulse in the back of his brain. It was actually quite annoying, but he was too busy having fun to really pay much attention to it. That was until Shiloh punched him square in the face. Benjamin's wide smile was wiped off of his face as his hands instantly went to his nose and he tried to jump back, but fell on his rear instead.
He took his hand away from his face too see that his nose was in fact, bleeding. He looked up to see Shiloh walking away. "You crazy bitch! Fuck you! Go back to your bastard child!" Ben spat out the words in disgust before mumbling back at himself about his nose and hoping it wasn't broken.
End Thread.
